Lone Star Back Roads
“I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could” is a cliche in these parts, but it’s true, even though “as fast as I could” might have been a little faster had I known what I know now after numerous weekend expeditions. Like Texas founding father Ed Burleson, I was born in North Carolina, although Ed started out in Buncombe County (where Asheville is these days) and I started out in Franklin County (north of Raleigh). I do love the North Carolina mountains, and for two years I did live in Black Mountain, and after that I spent a little less than a decade in Chattanooga, TN …. until I made my way to Texas in March of 2015.
During the week, I work in Austin as a lead developer/technical architect/mentor/problem solver. I grew up in the country, though, so on the weekends, we like escape from the city and travel down the back roads of Texas in search of good brisket and (as the older generation from my part of North Carolina might have said when I was a youngin’) “things what need photographin’.”
