I’ve been anticipating the Winchester Area Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fish fry fundraiser. I first heard about it last year, but we were out of town. Thankfully that wasn’t the case this year, because let me tell you… the fish was delicious! Margie, James, and I really enjoyed the whole evening.
One thing I’ve really noticed is that the communities out here really come together and support… well… all kinds of things. They help provide for the local parochial schools (for instance, the St. Paul Serbin PTLS picnic), help out local kids who show livestock (The Warda Bunch), donate to the American Cancer Society (Richard’s Rule Breakers at Richard’s Hot Oil Service in Giddings)… and then there are events like this one that help fund the volunteer fire departments.
I’ve had the opportunity to photograph several picnics and fundraisers like this in the last couple of years, but one thing I haven’t done well is photograph the volunteers that do the hard work of preparing the food. While I wasn’t able to document all aspects of the food prep, I did get some photos of the folks who cut, breaded, and fried up the fish.
We’re already looking forward to next year!
