The folks at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda have been having their annual picnic since before any of us were alive… this year was reportedly the 103rd one. Quite a few things have changed since the early picnics (for one thing, there were actual pits dug into the ground to cook the barbecue), but they’re still having a good time!
Since we were coming in from church in Bastrop, we missed the barbecue (it sold out before 11 a.m.) and Mark Gruetzners’ live music, but we did arrive at about 2 p.m. as the Lost Cause Band was setting up and stayed through the first 2/3 or so of the auction… we heading home just as the sun was setting. It was a great day!
