Ring the Bell
Well… the bones of the narthex expansion are up… including the new belltower!
These pictures have been taken over the last week… they’ve been working toward pouring the slab and finally got that done this morning! Pastor Tiner gave me a heads-up that they would be doing it early in the morning, but for various reasons, I was unable to make it out before the pour was done.
This week has been pretty busy and I haven’t had an awful lot of a chance to get out and take pictures… but we did manage to make it by Immanuel to document the progress on the addition. Looks like they’re getting pretty close to pouring the slab! Pretty soon, I’ll be able to get
Nothing super exciting here, but as of some time this past week, the last bits of the old bell tower are gone. I expect we’ll be seeing piers and a slab being poured soon!
I spent most of the day out in the parking lot across from Immanuel working from the passenger seat of the Expedition, and occasionally taking pictures of what turned out to be the final day of bell tower demolition… well, except for knocking down the short stubs that are left. There was one exciting moment
Today was a “down day” for the crew cutting up the old bell tower. All that happened (not to imply that this isn’t important) is that dump trucks brought in load after load of fill dirt, and the workers spread and compacted it. This is setting the stage for pouring the piers and slab in
Yesterday I was out at Immanuel for about an hour. This time I got a timelapse of the last bit of cutting and then the removal of the last “chunk” of the tower for the day. They made a lot more progress this time… I suspect they’ll be able to wrap up the cutting part
The saga continues… Today they cut two more pieces out of the bell tower. I suspect this will probably go at least through Tuesday, if not into Wednesday of next week. Holes, Inc. out of Houston is doing the work cutting the concrete, and Ray’s Crane Service out of La Grange is taking the pieces
Thursday night (well, maybe early Friday morning… I’m in the midst of a “stay up late and do things” streak) I saw a post on the Immanuel Lutheran Church Facebook page announcing that the bell tower demolition would be moving forward today. I decided pretty quickly that I would pack up my laptop and cameras
